Just, how much money do you need to come up with new products? if you need 100 billion US dollars then the product better be the greatest and most profitable product ever, or else. In fact what is the last product these two companies came up with all be there them self? The IPOD for apple which properly had a lot of money thrown into it's development, and made a very high return. For google it was properly the search engine since email, office software and OS, phones had all been around before they went into the market. In fact it seems to be start up companies that come up with innervation these days and both google and apple have enough money to buy them out if there willing to be sold.

@Spuppet Google isn't a competitor to apple in all sectors, meerly Android and Music at the moment, but it is trying to get into more, with Chrome OS, and now owning Motorola, what I'm suggesting is they do not have enough money for R&D to compete effectively in those areas

Saying that Google aren't a competitor to Apple is just plain wrong. Furthermore, the second 'tier' of your proposed idea, the part where you pay for removal of ads, is absurd. I really doubt many people would pay that much - especially considering Google have got so good at integrating their ads as to not be a nuisance. So, the answer to that is reduce the price, but then the price won't cover the costs of lost ads. You forget that having ads isn't just about them being clicked, but it's also about having impressions on the user and building a web presence.
