Valve confirms Steam has been hacked – credit cards possibly at risk…

Its recently been reported that Valve’s gaming network ‘Steam’ has been made a target by hackers who have got away with stealing the database of user information.
The details unfortunately included user logins, passwords, email addresses, billing addresses and game purchase history.
The only silver-lining to this story seems to be that the credit cards details were indeed encrypted. However, it remains to be seen whether the hackers have the technical knowledge to decrypt the credit-card details.

Valve’s co-founder Gabe Newell had this to say:

We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked.” Said Newell. “Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

Have you been a victim of hacking or information intrusion? If so GadgetCore recommends you to follow Gabe Newell’s advice and ”watch your credit card activity and statements closely”.
