The 10 essential Windows Phone 7 Games 2012

After completing our review of Android Apps for 2012, we decided that a similar Windows Phone review was necessary. What were our conditions? The app had to be good value for money, offer entertaining game play, and most of all be great! Not all of the apps were from 2012, in fact the majority were from 2011, this review is not of the best apps of 2012, but the best apps you can get to date!

  1. Angry Birds, this always appears on our list but only because its worth it, probably the most addicting game ever, you can play on Android, iOS, Chrome, Google Plus and Facebook. A great app, it never gets old, still our all time favourite Android App, and one of our favourite Windows Phone apps; it definitely belongs on this list! If you don’t know what Angry Birds is then where have you been for the last year, this phenomena will not stop any time soon, with a new reinvented Space version coming later this year. £2.29/$2.99
  2. Fruit Ninja, along with Angry Birds it forms the staple of smartphone games, nearly as addicting and just as fun, it’s still a great game and will remain on this list until something passes it, which I doubt for some time. Basically the aim of the game is to cut up as much fruit as possible while its being thrown up into the air, furthermore you must avoid the bombs to not end the game. Highly recommended for some time killing. £2.29/$2.99
  3. Doodle Jump; still a great game, still addictive, still incredibly simple! What has changed though is the price, on Android its a low sub £1 price, on WP7 it’s a massive $2.99 quite a lot for this type of game. That being said it’s still great; the aim of the game is to jump up repeatedly onto different platforms as to get back to the top, (this of course is impossible), The higher you get the better the score, all while dodgy monsters, and collecting boosts such as jet packs and helicopter hats! £2.29
  4. Let’s Golf 2; While all the other platforms are on the third edition of this franchise, the great game is still on version 2 for Windows Phone, however that’s all you need to enjoy a good round of gold on the device. The cartoon style is extremely sweet, and adds extra playability to the game, it doesn’t take itself as PGA tour but offers great game-play for the money, a must buy for any sports fan. £3.99/$4.99
  5. Kinectimals, A great game for Windows Phone offering Xbox Live functionality, while it appears to be aimed at children adults can definitely enjoy it. Not quite as fun as the full Xbox 360 Kinect version but definitely one of the bets games pushed out by Microsoft onto the Windows Phone platform. The aim of the game? To play, bond and care for animals, kind of like Nintendogs but with tiger cubs etc. £2.29/$2.99
  6. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Unfortunately this is still arguably the best racing game on Windows Phone, while this game is great its just not as great as for example; Real Racing 2 on Android and iOS, however that’s a lot to live up to and this game definitely offers the best of the street scene racing that you can get on a mobile device. The objective: You can choose whether to be a Cop or a Racer, both compete in events of different kinds unlocking better cars and upgrades along the way, basically like every other NFS game, but this time on Windows Phone. £3.99/$4.99
  7. Rocket Riot, One of the Windows Phone exclusives which is actually good. Go around shooting things with a shoulder mounted bazooka unlocking perks and power ups along the way. There are enemies to kill, but the completely destructible environment definitely is a cool distraction, one of the best games without doubt on the Windows Phone platform, shame it’s exclusive though. £3.99/$4.99
  8. Plants VS Zombies, Another classic app for Windows Phone. The iPhone classic comes to Windows Phone with Xbox Live functionality. Another addicting game; use a variety of home weapons to defend you garden from a variety of brain munching Zombies. Great fun but like the rest overpriced on the Windows Phone Marketplace. £2.29/$2.99
  9. Fragger, this game is also an explosive, action packed. Fragger’s world is full of enemies, your mission should you choose to accept it is to kill all of the enemies collecting perks along the way. The level get continually harder. A nice simple and addictive game £2.29/$2.99
  10. Chickens Can’t Fly, Another Windows Phone exclusive, a neat game where you guide a mutated/flying chicken through a scientists lab to escape to freedom or the like. Nice to play, more variety of levels would be appreciated but overall a nice game! £2.29/$2.99
