Sony unveil their new water-resistant Walkman – The NWZ-W260

Sony continue their current trend of releasing innovative products with the new Walkman NWZ-W260, a mp3 player built into a set of lightweight headphones.

After releasing the sleek-looking S1 and S2 tablets its seemed like the right time for Sony to throw out their new Walkman into the public sphere. The new NWZ-W260 (a working name, i’m sure!) is a set of lightweight headphones with the music player inbuilt. It is also water-resistant, inside and out, so that the avid gym-goer can carry on sweating in comfort. The new Walkman has a reported eight hours of battery life and has a quick-charging system which will allow you to get an hour of playtime from just three minutes of charging. The accompanying software allows users to drag and drop tracks from Windows Media Player and iTunes for Windows. Sony are looking to release the NWZ-W260 in America next month, with a 2GB version (the NWZ-W262) at $59.99 and a 4GB number (NWZ-W263) going for $79.99.

Sony aren’t stopping there – they have more high-end music players on the way. The company have just been given the green light for four players from their A860 series with capacities ranging from 8GB to 64GB. Sony have also claimed that these Walkmans will have large OLED screen, noise-cancelling technology and Bluetooth 2.0. Meanwhile, Sony are prepping a pair of S760 series players with either 8GB or 16GB of storage, an LCD screen for video playback, and Bluetooth. Interestingly, Amazon eagerly listed them in Europe with converted prices of $225 to $494 for the A series and $182 to $211 for the S series.
