Nokia N9 could be released by Sept. 15

Orange Switzerland have reported that the new Nokia N9 handset could be released by September 15, quelling fears of its release.

Just days after websites in Russia and Kazakhstan reported that the Nokia N9 would arrive in mid-August, Orange’s official Swiss website has put the N9 release date at September 15th. Alongside a “coming soon” image of the N9 and a list of features, visitors to the N9′s page on the site are met with the message: “This product is not yet available but will come soon. Check out its features and get ready for its launch on the 15.09.2011.”

The eagerly anticipated Nokia N9 comes with an 8MP camera on the back, standard VGA camera on the front and a 1GHz single-core processor, which, despite the lack of power, we’ve come to enjoy on handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S2. It will also be the first handset to run the new Meego OS, the new successor to the ill-fated Symbian OS.

Of course, a September release date in Switzerland doesn’t guarantee a September release for the U.K but those eagerly waiting to get their hand on the first Meego-powered mobile can take the announcement as another welcome sign that the N9 is on its way.

Is the Nokia N9 truly worth the wait or are there other handsets on the market that are far superior? Leave your comments below.
