Minecraft hits 4 Million Sales
This truly is an outstanding achievement: Mojang and “Notch”, aka Markus Persson, have hit 4 million sales with their first game, Minecraft. You might be wondering this is nothing for an AAA games company, and you’d be correct. But Mojang is an independent studio of a hand full of people, working on what started as a small project for Notch in his spare time. Even more amazing, Minecraft isn’t even out of the Beta phase. It’s set to release sometime next week – most likely rocketing sales -at MineCon.
It certainly is the best selling indie game of all time, and when compared with sales of other blockbuster titles, it blows them out of the water (relatively speaking, of course).
If you don’t already know about Minecraft – it’s a block building, zombie avoiding, cave building sandbox game with huge creative elements. It’s currently discounted, so be sure to pick it up ASAP (or if you’re lucky, like me, you got it for £8 back in the alpha stages!)
Also recently released is Mojang’s mobile version of the game. Be sure to check out our review for that.
