Imagination Technologies announce Series 6 GPUs for Tablets and Phones

Imagination technology, one of the leaders in mobile GPU technology has announced at CES 2012 that it has finalized its designs for its Series 6 GPU, and is now in the process of handing them out to the SOC manufacturers, who have purchased the rights, namely; ST Ericsson, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and Apple. The Series 6 GPU offers performance of up to 20x better than its predecessor. The Series 5 GPU is currently found in the iPhone 4 and 4S and iPad 1 & 2, and in the New Galaxy nexus device. The company has been in a leader in mobile GPU technologies is currently rivaled only by Samsung/ARM Mali series of GPUs found in the exynos processors, and the Tegra series manufactured by Nvidia.

We’re definitely looking forward to seeing this in action, when compared to the new Tegra 3, and the next-gen mali processor. If the performance figures are to believed then Windows 8 ARM gaming could really take off considering the low-cost, but high performance.
