Battle of the Super-Sized Phones
Phones have been getting bigger and there is no doubting that. In fact recently we have seen the standard in screen size rise from a mere 3.5inch to a much larger 4.3inch. All of the flagship phones are definitely bigger than they were just a mere year ago, with growth on the horizon once again we have manufacturers trying to anticipate the trend just like HTC did with the HD2 and Evo 2 years ago; the birth of the 4.3inch phone. In fact it is ludicrous to say that phones are going to get anything but larger.
In fact this week we have been graced with the rise of the larger phone, with the charge lead by Samsung and HTC, and I am going to attempt to compare and analyze these three phones. I’m sure for the Gadget crazy it is easy to guess which phones I’m talking about; the HTC Titan, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and last but certainly not least the Samsung Galaxy Note.
More after the break…
Processing Power
So lets start with processing power, this is of course one of the most important aspects of a phone in the modern day, however different OSs require different levels of power. The HTC Titan has a 1.4GHz Single core Snapdragon and certainly powers along quite nicely, however this is the only top of the line phone today, in our comparison that does not feature a hefty dual-core processor. According to the manufacturer this is because of the strict rules on hardware with WP7 as well as the fact that it definitely saves battery life. As Microsoft like to put it, who needs all that power when the OS is coded so efficiently. In fact my nearly 18month old Wp7 device runs as fast if not faster in terms of responsiveness than the likes of the Evo 3D. Why is this? Nobody knows. Onto the rest, the Note packs a powerful punch with a 1.5GHz Dual-core Exynos processor and the Galaxy Nexus comes with a TI OMAP 4460 clocked at a healthy 1.2GHz. Clearly the Note has a better processor than the rest but real time performance cannot be determined yet.

Screen
This is one of the most important things about the device, the screen, after all it is by far the biggest and most apparent feature and on these screens you will defintely notice the difference between them. The Galaxy Note has the biggest screeen at a whopping 5.3inchs, the biggest screen to date on a smartphone. In fact the Note’s screen is so big that it is classed as a phone tablet hybrid. It is massive but apparently it will still fit in your pocket, we haven’t tried it yet so don’t take our word. The screen is HD Super AMOLED with a 1280*800 resolution. Furthermore we have the HTC Titan with its humungous 4.7inch display and its SLCD technology, with a dissappointing 800*480 resolution. But for this round the Galaxy nexus takes the prize with its still huge 4.65″ display along with a mind shattering 1200*720 Super AMOLED screen. Good huh! THis round we are going to do it in pixel density
- Galaxy Nexus 310PPI
- Galaxy Note 284PPI
- Titan 198PPI
All of the phones have an 8 Megapixel camera, besides the Galaxy Nexus with a 5MP, as well as LED flashes. So what is the difference? From our general experience the best camera here is the one on the Note, as it is exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy S II camera, which is frankly excellent. Furthermore the other two are purely a battle between the sheer number of Megapixels and focus and shutter speed, so we are going to call them even, for now…- Galaxy Note

November 17th for Nexus, Titan out now, NOvember 3rd for the Note
