Apple unlocks the power of…well…unlocking
In a shocker, Apple has successfully won a patent on the way touchscreen devices are unlocked. More specifically; “A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch-sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device.”
So basically, every other phone.
The patent was filed back in June 2009, and has only just been granted. Bad news for Android and Windows phones, as this means they have been in breach for over two years.
All is not lost, however, as the rival companies can counter with a call for an undeserving or too broad patent, declaring that the obviousness of using the touchscreen to unlock a phone cannot be claimed by one company.
The monopoly of Apple is clearly rolling on, as the late Steve Jobs was aggressively trying to eliminate the competition over what he called ‘stolen ideas’.
I can only really think of one thing to say: Apple, please stop it…
