Android has dominated the smartphone world but could Samsung have done better?
Google’s Android OS has been reported with 48% share of the Smartphone market however analysts claim that Samsung could have done more to capitalise on their new-found dominance

The latest from the analysts at Canalys indicate that Google’s mobile OS have a 48 percent share of smartphones worldwide, or nearly one out of every two sold. Unsurprisingly it is Nokia who lose out here with a steep decline to a 24 percent share seen in last month’s IDC reports. This is worrying news for Nokia as the smartphone market grew 73 percent year over year and has seen Samsung, in particular, ship 421 percent more handsets than it did a year ago. Samsung and Apple have now surpassed Nokia in smartphone marketshare.
Despite the rampant growth, Canalys believe that Samsung could have done better, noting that it had failed to capitalize on Nokia’s “weakened state around the world” with its “global scale and channel reach.” It’s still relatively early days for Samsung, so if they do listen to Canalys’ advice who knows what new moves the company may take.
