Mobile OS showdown

As you might or might not already know, there are in fact four major mobile OSs worth considering at the moment (until symbian 3 gets here, I’m really sorry we could not add it to the table but we do not know enough about it yet and to be honest not a whole that much has changed. Also Maemo is a contender but due to its single availability on the N900 we cannot compare it with Mobile OSs that are on tens of different devices). These are Apple’s iPhone OS, Google’s Android, Microsoft’s WinMo 6.5 , and Palm’s Web OS. As I know many of you have been thinking what is the best mobile OS to have at the moment. But wait  because we have two up and coming OSs iPhone OS4 and WinMo 7 which will also be compared and of course there are still two major contenders which have already reached their maturity Symbian and Blackberry.  If you’re wondering how this table works the, points system is  0-5, if it is a yes no question 5= yes 0=no.

From our charts you can deduct an order of OS:

  1. Android
  2. iPhone OS 4
  3. Web OS
  4. WinMo7
  5. iPhone OS 3.1 (current)
  6. WinMo 6.5
  7. Symbian
  8. Blackberry

But then of course some features have more weight than others to some people. For example, I don’t care about business so much, so I could wipe that out of the equation, but for some people this is their top priority for whom I would say that Blackberry in WinMo is best at.

Considering this, please don’t comment on “we think that this should have more weight because…”, but for your specific needs please do not take the final scores into account as much as the individual features. I hope you’ve found it useful.

UPDATE: If you would like to know more how we chose the shortlist, we used the market share of the OS and the anticipation of the new OS builds within the tech community…
