iPad UK release

As you all already know, the iPad has been released in the UK… But is it worth the £429?

OS
I have always thought tablets perform and feel sleeker with Mobile OSs. But with the limitations of iPhone 3.2 does it let the hardware down. Would you feel satisfied with something that can’t multitask? Anyway, the iPhone OS 3.2 is great and with iPhone OS 4.0 down the pipeline, the OS is the least of its worries.

Hardware
With a basic look at the device, the specs look good with a 1Ghz processor and a huge 9.7 inch IPS screen. But then under closer inspection you find that the things you would expect to find as standard on a tablet, are unfortunately missing. These of course are the USB and SD ports, although; special accessories are available to add these – even though they should already be there

Other considerations/use
Well, what can you use this for besides fun? Let us think… nothing. It lacks the power of netbook, at double the average netbook price, and can’t print even if it has the iWork applications. It’s only as portable as a netbook too, so not something that you can use for your media player on the move. As an e-reader it also has one major flaw, the screen. After extended reading on IPS or LCD screens it gives you headaches, so this is ok for newspaper reading or for a chapter or two, but for extended reading the kindle is a much better choice thanks to its e-ink.

Verdict
This is a truly great device for multimedia though and I love it!! Only problems are practicality but for fun this thing is amazing, something made for long trips on planes.
