Cyborg V.7 Keyboard

First impressions
My first thoughts of the keyboard were much better than what pictures I had seen, the dark beige seen in pictures is more of a dark grey and rather suits the keyboard. Like a lot of new keyboard it features 1 USB port the headphones and mic jacks on the top edge of the keyboard which is always nice to not have to go feeling for that one free USB on the back of your case.

The Comfort
The keyboard comes with a detachable wrist rest which is adjustable in length with feet of the keyboard and 2 different heights of feet at the back, I stuck with the tradition sense of the lower feet setting at the back, with the higher feet I felt the keyboard was in my face and that i was typing up a hill! The key press is tougher than most keyboards which hampered touch typing for the first hours of use but was quickly acclimated.

The WASD Space and Arrow keys are metal-plated which gives them a nice strong feel especially when playing FPS and for those who touch type it gives a firmer feel of where you are than the notches on the F and J keys.

The Media Functions
The keyboard has media keys on the top which are very responsive and were working with the Windows 7 auto-download drivers however the volume bar did not work until I downloaded them from Cyborg, similarly the 12 quick keys were not programmable until then.

The 12 quick keys are a bit of a stretch to be using in FPS, RTS, MOBAs and RPGs, they aren’t as close and convenient as those featured on the Logitech keyboards and their style of press is more like a piano however they in situations when you aren’t trying to blow someone’s head off as with any macro key they suited their purpose.

The Lighting
The lighting on the keyboard has an interesting choice of colours with the spectrum ranging from Red to Green, a button on the top of the keyboard will switch between red or custom, the custom mode allows you to colour different sections of the boards with different intensities, oddly there was no blue. When the lighting is off the keys are still clearly visible as the letters are not transparent as on other keyboard like the Lycosa.

Verdict
Overall I am enjoying the keyboard and I can see it lasting. It was easy to setup, it’s easy to use and robust. The one fault is the positioning of the macro keys, just a little bit too far for fast paced action. Good job to Saitek who made the keyboard!

Score 4.4/5.0
