ClearCoat Protection Review

Today’s review is brought to you by PurelyGadgets.co.uk who provided us with this clear coat system. ClearCoat is a special material which is designed to protect the phone, much like the sticker type systems you find now, with one crucial difference, it actually bonds with the screen in some sense so is made to last longer than normal likewise protection

So here it goes; the ClearCoat came in a well designed package, with everything contained well and nothing too hard to get into or out of. The packaging is definitely elegant but simple. When you open it up it looks great inside, everything arranged neatly, with the instructions on top containing the main parts, the spray and the squeegee, all of which are essential items for the successful completion of the “simple” process.

More after the break!

The process itself, is not as “simple” as it is made out to be, on the front cover it quotes 3 easy steps, however on the instructions there are 8 steps, all with mini steps, which have to be completed in my case 6 times. Not so “simple” now?

So what do you do?

First, believe it or not, you have to wet you fingers, minimizing the chance of getting fingerprints underneath the cover or on the phone itself, however the newer ClearCoats do not need the last step, then you get one of the covers off of the sticker like paper, and place it on the phone, lining it up with important features, cameras, microphones, buttons etc. You then continue on to squeegee the remaining fluid from out of under the cover, wiping it a way with a lint free towel; although not included, they come with many phones, screens, and even glasses.

The next step is one of the most frustrating: trying to keep it from peeling off. After much trying I found that it is best to let it peel off and leave it a while, this becomes more apparent on curved back phones, easy peasy on the iPhone, Wait maybe 15-20 minutes and you will find that it becomes a thousand times easier to stick on.

After all of that temporary misery, you have to repeat with all of the covers. Personally I only stuck the main ones on, the back and the front and left the rest; I’ve never seen any phone get scratched in some of the places. Especially considering the side of modern phones is so thin, plus it was too fiddly for me, but if it was a brand new phone, and I were likely to ever scratch it along a pavement then I would add the side bits in for extra protection.

So does it work?

Yes, extremely well, after testing it by carrying it around with coins in my pocket and I can happily say that it is the best completely invisible protection I have ever had, and I can exclusively reveal that it left no marks on my HTC. Furthermore nobody noticed, pointed out or saw that I was using protection of some kind, (cue the misinterpretation comments below), and I managed to protect my phone without a noticeable sticker, ugly bulky case or my magical powers.

Overall this is a brilliant product, offering good protection without sacrificing the aesthetic appeal of my device, furthermore after my short frustration caused by my lack of physical precision, ( hence I’m not a doctor), I was able to protect my device for the rest of its useful and used life, (probably a month or two) but I’m sure it will last much longer.

The final Verdict:

After testing this cover thoroughly and putting it on myself on my own phone, I have gradually fallen in love with it, no longer do I worry about putting the phone in with my coins and keys but instead happily place my phone into this cold ocean with a life preserver protecting it from the potential waves of scratches caused by the icebergs which are metal objects.

Positive:

  • Excellent protection
  • Completely Invisible
  • Well priced only £14.95
  • Lifetime replacement

Negative:

  • A little fiddly

Score 4.5/5
