Nintendo launches 3DS XL

Today Nintendo, the maker of the DS and 3DS announced that they will make a 3DS XL, a version of the ill-fated 3DS with a larger screen. Nintendo hope this larger version will catch the publics attention, unlike the 3DS which fared badly due to the rise of the smartphone. Hopefully for Nintendo’s sake this will pay off, but the more likely result is failure; the threat of the smartphone has not disappeared but got greater since the 3DS originally launched, furthermore the majority of gaming enthusiasts already own a 3DS will not upgrade to the XL. But it sure does look nicer. The device will be released in the UK on July 28th.
