A Solution For The Older Generation

In today’s day and age it’s common for our parents and grandparents to struggle with technology, and the most common issues are with mobile phones. Well London-based design firm Vitamins Design has come up with a clever concept to help tackle this.

They believe that mobile phones nowadays are provided with manuals that contain complicated language and jargon that limits accessibility to those who aren’t tech-literate. As a result, a large portion of the population is crowded out from the target audience. The books that Vitamins Design has produced on the other hand contain the phone itself alongside simple instructions, and can sit on the bookshelf for reference.

The first book takes the user through the basic steps of setting up the phone, each page showing the steps of inserting sim card, battery and back cover in order. The second is its manual, into which the user inserts their phone and is guided through its use. Arrows and clear simple instructions point out how to use the phone to make calls, play music and take pictures amongst other things, maintaining accessibilty throughout.

Out of the box
The project was designed for use with Samsung phones and was created with the collaboration of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design.

Thats a really good concept, although the manual does look a bit bulky in the 21st century
