Why Gingerbread 2.3 doesn’t matter!

Recently, many people I know have been complaining about not having Android Gingerbread on their phones, and feel I have to say this – Gingerbread is pointless, unless you own a Nexus device. This is because Gingerbread’s features were mostly UI based, and because most other phones besides the Nexus One and S have custom UIs, this does not apply to them.

With the upcoming Honeycomb OS Google wanted the UIs to look a least slightly similar, so changed the colour-scheme to the black and green that Gingerbread has now, getting rid of the ugly original notification bar. For normal users this will not be apparent, as most UIs already have a black notification bar.

What people should be worrying about isn’t whether their phone is getting Gingerbread, but whether or not it’s receiving an update to Ice-Cream, the unification of Gingerbread and Honeycomb for phones and tablets. This will be a new and improved OS with a complete UI overhaul.

Hopefully this has cleared everything up for you!!!
